Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice Opens a 98-Seat Flagship at Jewel Changi

Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice opened its first full restaurant, and sixth outlet, at Jewel Changi Airport on 22 August 2026. The 98-seater sits at B2-243/244, next to the revamped Food Republic. East-siders who will not queue at Maxwell Food Centre in the heat now have an air-conditioned plate of the same steamed chicken, at airport prices. A set is S$11. Maxwell still sells a medium plate for about S$6.

Same chicken, different bill, and a room that Maxwell never had

Foo Kui Lan and her brother started the stall at Maxwell in 1986. Daughter Loi Mui Yin took over in 2019 and put in a central kitchen so roasted chicken, steamed chicken, and chilli stay consistent across outlets. The Maxwell stall has held a Michelin Bib Gourmand for 10 consecutive editions since 2016. Anthony Bourdain ate there. The 2013 Singtel Hawker Heroes Challenge, where Tian Tian beat Gordon Ramsay, is still the story tourists bring up. None of that changes the rice.

Time Out's Adira Chow found the Jewel rice faintly chicken-fragrant, on the softer, starchier side, matching what she remembers from Maxwell. Steamed chicken beat roasted on that visit: silky meat, a gelatinous layer under the skin from the ice bath after poaching. The sauce is a thicker, sweeter reduction than the light savoury gravy many Singaporeans prefer. That same sticky sauce goes on gizzards, liver from S$1.60, and the outlet-exclusive crystal chicken feet. Half steamed and half roasted on the set costs 80 cents extra.

HungryGoWhere's Shannon Yap called the rice a little drier than her last Maxwell plate. Two reviewers, two textures. Expect the rice to move a little during the first month of a new kitchen. The room is rattan chairs, warm light, and Tian Tian blue. Staff actually take the order. That is the real upgrade, not a secret chilli recipe.

Jewel-only dishes that Maxwell dropped

Crystal chicken feet at S$9.80 used to be a Maxwell staple. Deboning every foot until only the glassy skin remains is slow work, so the stall dropped it. The Jewel kitchen brought it back, lightly dressed, collagen-rich, crunchy. Time Out wanted more from the condiments. HungryGoWhere liked the soy-sesame dressing and the lack of funk. If you already skip chicken feet, skip this too. If you miss the old Maxwell version, this is the reason to sit down at B2 instead of grabbing a set to go.

Mdm Foo's steamed chicken curry is S$13.80. It started as a staff-meal recipe from founder Kui Lan. The plate is the same poached chicken in a thick, throat-warming curry with chunky potatoes and fried beancurd skin. Carbs are chicken rice, white rice, yellow noodles, thick vermicelli, or baguette. The baguette is the move if the table already ordered rice sets. Nanyang golden chicken is S$12.80: turmeric and curry-leaf fried chicken with a light, flaky crunch. Time Out and HungryGoWhere both treat the turmeric as mild.

The Tian Tian heritage platter is listed at S$25.80 by Time Out and S$26.80 by HungryGoWhere. Confirm on the printed menu. It is a share plate of Thai-style fried tofu, ngoh hiang, tiger-prawn beanskin rolls, fried salad prawns, and Hainanese pork chop, sized for two to three people. A la carte portions of those items start from S$12.50. Homemade lime juice is S$5.30. Barley is S$4.30.

Opening-weekend giveaways of 88 takeaway chicken rice packets on 22 and 23 August are over. The S$10.80 blind-box plushies (chopping board, chicken, chilli bowl, chicken-rice plate) may still be on the counter while stocks last, with a S$30 single-receipt spend or S$38.88 for the set of four. Treat merch as optional. The food is the story.

Who this outlet is actually for

If you live in Tampines or Pasir Ris and you already like Tian Tian, Jewel is the comfortable version, not the cheap one. If you are flying out of Changi, it is a last plate of Singapore chicken rice without a city detour. The Food Republic next door already has Michelin hawker brands from the July 2026 reopen. You can eat Tian Tian, then walk 20 metres for fishball noodles. Hours are 10am to 10pm daily. Changi Airport MRT is the station. The Jewel set will not convert anyone who already prefers Boon Tong Kee or a neighbourhood stall at S$4.50. It will convert the person who refused Maxwell's heat.
