Bought a takeaway packet last week. Average fare. Nothing special. And he pre- cooks the CTK. I think he only add garlic and no chai por ( preserved veg) so it lacks oomph. But what was strange was his comments when I asked for small portion ($3) and to add an additional egg which is an additional $1 which I willingly paid. There wasn’t any other customers other than me but whilst preparing my order, he told me he won’t do this ( add another egg for a dollar) if he is busy as it’s “ extra work”. Huh? I paid you an additional $1 what! I never ever had any issues when I asked for an additional egg when patronising hawker centres. Weird.
Carrot Cake / Chye Tow Kueh (SGD $3) @ Changi Village Carrot Cake. . Specialising in only the black version, their rendition is a glorious, delicious mess. . The carrot cake is soft and moist, covered with a generous spread of fluffy eggs. . Nicely sweet eggy savoury salty in flavour, with a hidden kick of spicy heat.
Used to est here often as a child and I remember it being much better. Not sure what happened but it's just okay carrot cake these days. Felt there wasn't enough sauce and chili too. Maybe can consider it a healthier version! At least the price is still pretty alright too.
Old school style fried carrot cake. Only sell black sauce carrot cake. Fried together with generous amount of garlic and chai poh. …
I was told if I go Changi Village, this is one of the “must try” food but no offend, I have eaten better fried carrot cake than this 🥹 They only sell the black carrot cake so if you prefer the white one, you will be disappointed. Taste wise, is quite plain & not the ”Wow” kind of carrot cake… just my personal opinion.
At the rustic Changi Village hawker centre, or food centre, you can find one of the best fried carrot cake dishes in Singapore. …
